Design Engineer

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, located in Monroe, NC, is looking for a Design Engineer.   Charlotte Pipe and Foundry is a leading manufacturer of pipe and fittings. We are the only manufacturer that offers a complete system of cast iron, PVC, CPVC, ABS and FlowGuard Gold® pipe and fittings for residential and commercial plumbing systems and industrial applications.  Investment in the latest tooling and machinery make it possible for us to meet increasing demand for our products and to provide the highest quality pipe and fittings in the industry. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist Tool Room associates with obtaining and interpreting 2D mold prints and 3D files. Revise 2D mold prints and 3D files as needed.  Assist tool room associates with ordering spare/replacement parts. Work together with all Tool Room associates to troubleshoot problems with injection molds.  Design mold modifications and improvements to improve run efficiencies and cycle.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with Mold Approval Team to develop mold request list for capital projects.
  • Order new or replacement tooling from mold vendors.
  • Work directly with mold vendors to compile necessary quotes for various projects.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with Mold Approval Team to approve preliminary mold conepts for new molds 

and inspect new molds upon delivery.

  • Create accurate 2D and 3D part files based upon Charlotte Pipe Part Design Specifications.

These files will be used by mold vendors to design Charlotte Pipe’s new molds.

  • Review and update Charlotte Pipe Mold Building Guidelines as needed and update mold vendors of any changes.
  • Assist Marketing Department with any changes or additions to Charlotte Pipe catalogs.
  • Verify part dimensional or marking information for Technical Services.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Design, or related Engineering Fields.
  • Ability to use AutoCad and Solidworks, or similar program, to create and modify prints for molds and other tooling.
  • used throughout the plant.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office products specifically Excel, Outlook, Access, and Word.
  • Possess a clear understanding of injection molds and how they operate.
  • Possess knowledge of the metals used in injection molds and which metals work best in different applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot injections molds.
  • Ability to effectively work on several projects at one time by prioritizing/multi-tasking.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take the lead on a project or task and to follow it through to completion.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well in both a team and an individual environment.
