General Job Description:

An engineering technician is a specialist who is trained in the skills and techniques related to a mechanical and electrical support needs in a manufacturing environment, with relatively practical understanding of the general engineering concepts. Engineering technicians often assist maintenance with advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance programs, training and engineers with projects. Confer with engineers and internal customer, to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products. Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical control and distribution systems, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for manufacturing systems. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks. Direct and coordinate the specification, fabrication, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and internal customer requirements. Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish conformance to codes, and designs by accepted best practices. Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards. Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment. Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget. Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of mechanical and electrical systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements. Plan, layout and coordinate plant electrical systems to insure reliability and adequate capacity. Assist in developing capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs. Develop budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs. Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects. Collect data relating to plant operations to determine/insure operating efficiency and cost control.

 

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Safe Work Practices – Working with Safety Department, Maintenance and internal customers to insure existing equipment and facilities, along new equipment conform to known codes and safety standards.
  • Support Company Objectives - Confer with engineering, maintenance, department and administrative staffs to insure department support of company objectives.
  • Communication – Assure the status of assignments are regularly communicated to all associates affected.
  • Perform Savings Assessments – Actively monitor the use of resources and conservation team implementations to insure company resources are being effectively used.
  • Reliability Centered Engineering – Help to identify issues with equipment and identify underlying problems that negatively impacting machine reliability, recommend and assist to implement improvements.
  • CAD Proficiency – Utilize computer aided design software to improve productivity, clearly convey design concepts, and reduce implementation costs.
  • Engineering Principles – Application of sound engineering knowledge consistent with college and continuing education.
  • Technical Leadership – Identify and recommend ways for CP&F to leverage technology to improve safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping and communication.


Experience or Training Required:

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) Electrical/Electronics Technology or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Engineering technician work under the supervision of engineering department
  • Experience preferred as maintenance technician in manufacturing (5 years)
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering and science technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to support maintenance organization.
  • Knowledge of machines, including design, uses, and troubleshooting.
